     George was born at Rutland, NY, on 19 September 1837. He was the son of Dr. Lyman Stanton and Jemima Topping. George Daniel Stanton married Adelia E. Colburn on 31 January 1864.
     He enlisted at Copenhagen, N.Y., May 7, 1861, as musician in Co. B, 35th N.Y. Inf. The regiment was assigned to PAtrick's Brigade, King's Division, McDowell's 1st Army Corps, "Army of the Potomac." He was in the following engagements with the enemy: Rappahannock Station, White Sulphur Springs, Groveton, and 2d Bull Run. Served 19 months and was discharged for disability at U.S. General Hospital, York, PA., Dec. 4, 1862. Re-enlisted for three years at Watertown, N.Y.,Jan. 4, 1864, as private, Co. A, 20th N.Y. Cavalry. Served in scouting and raiding in Virginia and North Carolina, and entered Richmond Apr. 3, 1865 with McKenzie's Division, Kantz's Cavalry Corps, Army of the James, the first cavalry to enter the city. Mr. Stanton was with General Warren on his march and fight (Mar.30, 1865), and with Sheridan at "Dinwiddie Court House."" His regiment was mustered out at Sacketts Harbor, N.Y., July 31, 1865. In 1891 he was the adjutant of E.A. Brown Post, No. 130, G.A.R. George Daniel Stanton lived in 1891 at Fond de Lac, WI.
