Joseph Williams married Julia Ann Gallup, daughter of Christopher Gallup and Martha E. Stanton, on 9 December 1824 at Ledyard, CT. Joseph Williams died on 19 February 1889 at Stonington, CT.
      He was a Congregationalist and a Whig. He lived on the ancestral Stanton farm of Thomas (1), which was never occupied by any other than Stantons until Mr. Williams lived upon it. The land in 1891 was occupied and posses by Elias and Joseph S. Williams, sons of Joseph Stanton Willias. They had the original deed of the tract of some 200 acreas. It read as follows: "Know all men by these presents that we Thomas Beebe and Nathaniel Beebe of Pequot so sell and make over all our land at Mystic to Thomas Stanton, for him and his heirs forever, that is to say the farm adjoining to Captain Denison on the south and with John Gallups on the north butting towards the river on the west Mystic River, and on the east end Captain Denisons; this tract of upland is in estimation two hundred acres more or less, with eight acres of meadow more or less adjoining to the aforesaid land all which forementioned land, with all the appurtenances belonging thereunto, we do firmly sell and deliver to Thomas Stanton and his heirs forver to enjoy and possess quietly without disturbance from us or our heirs or assignes, and do bind ourselves to free the said Thomas Stanton from any molestation or claims or demands whaysoever in or about the aforesaid land to the true performance hereof we bind oruselves, heirs, executors administrators or assigns firmly by these presents this second of January 1656.
