Joseph Stanton married Abigail Sheffield on 6 March 1748. Joseph Stanton died by May 1761.

     Abigail Sheffield was baptized on 25 November 1759 at Westerly, RI. She owned the covenant in the Presbyterian church in Westerly, RI and was baptized. She married Joseph Stanton, son of Capt. Daniel Stanton and Elizabeth Brown, on 6 March 1748.
     As of 6 March 1748,her married name was Stanton. From the records of the Presbyterian church in Westerly, RI: "13 May 1761 Sarah and her sister-in-law Abigail (married to Samuel's brother Joseph) have a quarrel and John's family are out with Sarah. Abigail is dismissed from the Presbyterian church in Westerly. Once before her marriage, she (Abigail) said her sister Elizabeth Sheffield and Hannah and Susanna Wilcox spread a report that Abigail Park was on the floor on her back, pawing and screaming, but she afterwards confessed it to be a lye."
