Marshall was born at Pine Grove, Warren, Pennsylvania, circa 1825. Alan Stephans indicates he was born 1824 in Sugar Grove, PA..1 He was the son of James G. Stanton and Rebecca Jones. He married Mary Ann Hinkley.
Marshall Stanton lived in 1891 at North Warren, Warren, Pennsylvania. Altogether, there were 11 children, 6 boys and 5 girls born to his marriage with Mary Ann. Two of them not identified or perhaps listed under their middle names were Rose who married a McKain and Mary who married a Scheiler and resided in Erie, PA. Marshall was a soldier in the Civil War. He bought 10 acreas in the Kinzua area in 1911 and may have died there.1
