Alexandria, VA 22310-4025 The following file contains a listing of genealogical and historical societies in Oklahoma. Included in the listing, where known, are telephone numbers and yearly dues. This listing is donated to the public domain and may be freely copied. Under no conditions can this listing be sold or used in any other commercial fashion. If you think this list has any value, then donate that value in helping your local genealogical society (or the National Genealogical Society). If you write to any of the societies on this list for information, remember to include a self addressed stamped envelop (SASE). Many of these societies work with a limited budget, supplemented by volunteers, and can not afford to respond unless a SASE is included in your letter. Oklahoma Genealogical Society P.O. The early records, which are quite incomplete, are at county courthouses. The statewide registration of births and deaths began in 1908 and was generally complied with by 1930. You can write to: Registrar of Vital Statistics State Department of Health 1000 Northeast Tenth Street P.O. Box 53551 Oklahoma City, OK 73152 These birth records are considered confidential and are not available for public inspection. Delayed registrations of births (for persons born before registration began in 1908) are available from the Registrar of Vital Statistics. Marriage and Divorce Records Marriage bonds, affidavits, licenses, and certificates were kept by each county beginning about 1890 or when the county was created. Many marriages in the territorial era were not recorded, and some were recorded in county courthouses in Arkansas, Kansas, and Texas. Write to the appropriate county clerk for information. Divorces were granted after 1907 by the district courts or the circuit court in each county. You can write to the clerk of the court for information. Believe it is put out by the Rural Electric Association (REA). Have gotten several answers to my Oklahoma WOFFORD queries that have been published there.
