He married Margaret Rea in Glamis, Forfarshire, Scotland, 18 Sep 1841. Margaret was born in Arnyfoul, Glamis Parish, Scotland 2 Jan 1818. Margaret was the daughter of James Rae and Barbara Gibson. Margaret died 8 Oct 1901 in Merton, Waukesha Co., Wisconsin.

In the Census of 1850, David Allerdice was listed as a head of household in Merton, Waukesha Co., Wisconsin.

David Allerdice and Margaret Rea had the following children:
