He married Olive Elizabeth Berry in Ft. D.A. Russell, WY, 27 Apr 1913.⁽³⁵⁶⁹⁾ Olive was born in Ft. Snelling, Minnesota 5 Jan 1889.⁽³⁵⁷⁰⁾ Olive was the daughter of Lucien Grant Berry and Emily Ross Minier. Olive died 3 Oct 1979 in Virginia Beach, VA.⁽³⁵⁷¹⁾ He was a farm boy from Tennessee and an Army physician. A brigadier general in the army medical corps, he served in France during WWI and during World War II was assistant surgeon-general of the army.

Robert Clarence McDonald and Olive Elizabeth Berry had the following children:
