Samuel Milliken was the son of Samuel Milliken and Margaret Foster.1 When young came to Bellefont, Pa. entering the prothonotary's office as clerk. Shortly afterwards, however, he accepted a similar position with the Logan Iron Furnace and later at the Forge. By degrees he became general manager of the Howard Furnace and in turn agent for Valentine and Thomas in Elmira, N.Y. following which he acted as their representative in Philadelphia, Pa. Through the influence of his brother James, who was then Secretary of the Phoenix Iron Works, he was appointed agent for that company in New York City. This necessitated his moving and he located at 830 Central Avenue, Plainfield, N.J. He died leaving much valuable property.1 |
