For a number of years he was associated with the firm of Reeves, Buck & Co., which later became the Phoenix Iron Works. At the outbreak of the Civil War he was especially prominent and was one of the founders of the Union League. He was a member of the Board of Trade, Director of the Western Union Telegraph Co. as well as of several railroads.1 |
