DAR Linage book has his birthplace as Chester, Conn. Another IGI entry gives his birthdate as 16 Oct 1749 in Simsbury Township, Hartford, Conn and gives his marriage as abt 1774. Register of Revolutionary Soldiers andPatriots Buried in Litchfield Co. by Cropsey has his death date as 16 Mar 1812.

        He resided on the farm left by his horoed father until the year 1800, when he removed to Barkhamsted, where he resided the remainder of his life.

             He was a student. School:. James's occupation: The first minister of Newbury. James was born at Choulderton, Wilts, England, on 22 October 1608. He married Sarah Brown at England, in 1633.2 James died on 22 October 1656 at Newbury, Essex, MA. Came to New England in 1634 with his wife, brother Nicholas, and cousin Rev. Thomas Parker in the ship "Hercules", with whom, after having preached nearly one year at Medford (1634-5), he settled at Newbury (1st Chh., ordained 5 May 1635 )in 1635. The coat-of-arms of the Cornwall family appears on his tomb-stone in Stonington, Conn, which was cut in England about the year 1719. Called "the blessed light of Newbury". Published "A Catechism For Children" 1641, "The Temple Measured" 1647, and "Moses and Aaron", 1661. Another source says James and his brother Nicholas left March 1633 in the 'Mary and John' of London with their cousin Rev. Thomas Parker and were among the settlers of Newbury, Mass., May 1635.

             Joseph Stanton lived at Westerly, RI.2 Joseph was born in 1674.2 He was the son of Joseph Stanton and Hannah Mead. He married Esther Gallup on 3 January 1705.1,2 They resided in Westerly, RI. He was Assistant Magistrate in New London. He also was a justice in Westerly, R.I.

        In 1891 this letter was in the possession of Dr. George D. Stanton of Stonington, Conn. It was addresses to Governor Craneston of NEwport, R.I.: "Westerly August the 28 day 1719. Honnnored Sur thse with grief com to Inform your Honner that yester day Robert babcock of this town departed this life and it Is to be feared that the caus of his deth came by abuse or hurt that he Reseved: Sur the Jury of Inqueest have sat on him and viewed the outward and Inward part of his body and the find his body brused and his blader broked."
