First Generation

1. Gershom1 Rust Sr was born Coventry, Conn about Mar 1738. Gershom died 8 Oct 1823 Chester, Hampden Co., Mass.

He married Mary Cooley 28 Oct 1761. Mary was born 1735. Mary died 1829.

He resided Chester, Hampden Co., Mass about 1767. Of Hampden Co., Ma.

Gershom Rust Sr and Mary Cooley had the following children:

child 2 i. Anna2 Rust was born Chester, Hampden Co., Ma. 1 Nov 1762. Anna died 6 Jun 1808 Norwich Township, Hampshire Co., Ma. She married Elisha Stanton 1781. Elisha was born in Preston, New London, CT Oct 1752. In October 9, 1887, his son Gershom Rust said that Elisha was born in October 1754. Elisha was the son of Daniel Stanton and Dinah Stark.

Elisha died 13 Feb 1813 Norwich Township, Hampshire Co., Ma. Of spotted fever.

He resided in Vermont 1775. Elisha's son Gershom, says that one of the Galusha boys went with Elisha after the close of the Revolutionary War, from PReson, Conn to Vermont, entered the service of the then Governor of Vermont, as his clerk or secretary and afterward married the Governor's daughter, and some years later became Governor of the State, succeeding himself in that office for a number of terms.

He resided Goff's Hill, Norwich Township, Hampshire Co., Ma 1775. He purchased and resided on a hill farm on the Westfield river, five miles above (north of) Chester village and about three miles east of the Chester meeting-house and two miels west of the Norwich meeting-house; 10 miles from Northampton, Mass. The name given to the location by the residents was Goff's hill; the Rust family, resided on the Chester township side of the hill, and the Stanton family on the other or Norwich township side. child 3 ii. Quartus Rust was born 1766. He married Lois Terre. Died in early manhood. Was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.

child + 4 iii. Justin Rust was born between 1766 and 1770.

child + 5 iv. Gershom Rust was born 1770.

child 6 v. Joseph A. Rust was born Chester, Hampden Co., Ma 1778. He married an unknown person.

He resided Chester, Hampden Co., Ma. On the Rust homestead.
