Second Generation

3. John2 Bonner (??1) birth date unknown. John died 1785.

He married Sarah Walker in Cumberland Co., PA, 11 Jan 1785.

John immigrated, 6 Feb 1766. Destination: Newcastle, PA. He bought property in Mifflin Co., Pennsylvania, 1773. John never patented the land and in 1811 ownership passed to Thomas Ghormley, William Curran, and others. A house still stands on the property (1981). Although its origins are unknown its age would seem to indicate it was built during John's ownership of the property. It was later occupied by his daughter Judith and her children were born there. It could very well be the oldest "Bonner" house still standing.

He made a will 13 Nov 1784.(2639) The will names his wife Sarah, his sons David and William, his daughters Judith and Margaret, his sister Mary and (her daughter?) Sarah. The executors are his bros. James Bonner, James Bigham, and William Bigham. The witnesses were Charles Cunningham, Samuel Patterson, and James Patterson.

John's will was probated 11 Jan 1785.(2640) The notice of the sale of his property appears in "The Carlisle Gazette & The Western Repository of Knowledge" on Wednesday, 17 Septembr, 1794: "To be sold agreeable to will of John Bonner, deed, plantation on which he lived, 300 a., in Mifflin Co, Milford Co., Midland Township., adj. river Juniata, 1/2 mile from George Patterson's Mill. James Bonner, near the premises, James Bigham & William Bigham, Lancaster Co., Chestnut Level, Ex'rs." Revolutionary Soldier.
