     Joseph was born on 17 June 1791. Quoting the Stanton book "His son Jonas says 'b. in Rhode Island,' but the son Elias says 'my father's family came from Connecticuty and my mother's family from Rhode Island; these two families came of Pennsylvania and intermarried'.".² He was the son of William Stanton and Rachel Goodrich. He married Eunice Reynolds. My copy of the Stanton book has handwritten above the marriage "3-1-1812"..² Joseph died on 14 June 1836 at Lenox Township, Susquehanna County.²
