14. Georgios Demetrios3 Varkas (Demetrios Andonios2 Paspalas, Andonios1) was born in Loutra, Lesvos, Greece April 23, 1890.(287) The Social Security Death Index indicates he was born 23 April 1886. On his Social Security application he indicated he was born 23 April 1889. Georgios died October 6, 1966.

He married Irene Plomaritis July 4, 1920. Irene was born January 5, 1896. Although Irene indicated she was born in 1896, her social security application completed in February 1941 indicated she was born in 1899. However, the application has at least three handwritings on it (she signed with an x) so she may not be the source of that information. Irene was the daughter of Georgios Plomaritis and Marietta Stersle.

Irene died June 1984.

Georgios immigrated, 17 Sep 1906. Destination: New York, NY.(288) He is listed on the ship manifest as Georges Paspalas, 28 years of age, male, single, laborer, able to read and write, Greek nationality, last residence Mitilini, final destination Manchester N.H., joining at 10 Spring Street in Manchester, NH his friend (?Thrasivoulos?) Kazazis.

He resided Boston, Suffolk Co., MA 1917.(289) Georgios's occupation: restaurant Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, 1917.(290) Georgios's occupation: barber Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, 1925-1926.(291) He resided Jamaica Plain, Suffolk Co., MA 1927-1953.(292) Georgios's occupation: barber Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, 1927-1932.(293) Georgios's occupation: barber Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, 1933-1953.(294) He resided 1941. He first appears in the Manchester, NH City Directory in 1914 living at 142 Chestnut and working as a grocer at 28 Spruce. In 1916 he moved to 129 Spruce and remained there until 1926 when it reports he removed to Boston. He was employed: 1915-16 grocer at 52 Spruce, 1917-19 shoemaker. He was trained by his brother-in-law to cut hair and he is listed in the Boston City Directory in 1920 as a barber, and 1921-25 barber at 61 Central. The first entry for his wife Irene is in 1922. It does appear that he was in Boston during this period. The Boston City Directory for 1917 lists him as residing at 1491 Washington and working in a restaurant. He is not mentioned again until 1925 and 1926 when he is residing at 57 Oswego and a barber at 63 Dwight. In 1927 the Boston directory lists him at 30 Ophir in Jamaica Plain. 1927-32 he was a barber at 526 Tremont. From 1933-53 he is listed simply as a barber. His social security application indicates he was a barber at George Barber Shop, 548A Tremont Street, Boston, Mass. The family moved to Florida in 1953.

Georgios Demetrios Varkas and Irene Plomaritis had the following children:
