17. Michael Demetrios³ Varkas (Demetrios Andonios² Paspalas, Andonios¹) was born in Loutra, Lesvos, Greece February 22, 1894.⁽²⁹⁵⁾ The Social Security Death Index indicates born 22 February 1895. Michael died July 1975.

He married Pelagia Polimou July 18, 1920. Pelagia was born August 20, 1896. Pelagia's Social Security Application says her father is Apostolos Maguranis not Polimou. The application was made 18 May 1972 when she was 75 years old in connection with her claim for her husband's social security death benefit. It indicates her birth as 20 August 1896. But when she was interviewed in 1973 she said her birthday was 12 July 1896. Pelagia was the daughter of Apostolos Polimou and Anna Koupano.

Pelagia died October 1982.

He resided in Charleston, Suffolk Co, Ma 1922.⁽²⁹⁷⁾ He resided in Charleston, Suffolk Co, Ma 1923.⁽²⁹⁸⁾ He resided Jamaica Plain, Suffolk Co., MA 1925-1926.⁽²⁹⁹⁾ Michael's occupation: partner Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, 1925-1968.⁽³⁰⁰⁾ Michael's occupation: retired Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, 1969-1972.⁽³⁰¹⁾ When asked about his immigration the interviewer wrote that he and his wife responded that they left in 1910 "Germania, Marseilles" arriving in the U.S. in 1911. The interviewer did not clarify if they meant they went to Germany first, then Marseilles, and the U.S. or if they meant that they sailed on the ship Germania from Marseilles. He first appears in the Manchester, NH City Directory rooming at 139 Spruce and working as a chef at Grimes Lunch Co., 856 Elm. In 1921 Pelagia is listed with him and they live at 241 Cedar. That year they went from Boston, Massachusetts to Charlestown, Massachusetts. In the Boston City Directories they resided 1922 18 Sullivan, Charlestown, MA; 1923 22 Lincoln, Charlestown, MA; 1925-26 57 Oswego, Boston; 1927-72 30 Ophir, Jamaica Plain, MA. Occupation: 1920 chef at Grimes Lunch Co, 856 Elm, Manchester, NH; 1922-23 restaurant worker; 1925-68 Joy Lunch, Boston, MA, 1969 retired.

Michael Demetrios Varkas and Pelagia Polimou had the following children:
