[761] He was a congregational clergyman. By 1888 he was retired from
the pastorate but did considerable supplying in neighboring
towns. He is an alumnus of Yale College, Class 1843; and of
Yale Theological Seminary, Class 1847. He was ordained by the
Presbytery of Albany as pastor of the Presbyterian Church at
Cohoes, N.Y., 9 Feb, 1848. In 1853 he became pastor of the
Congregational Church at Derby, Conn. In 1856 he was installed
pastor of the Greenville Congregational Church of Norwich,
Conn., which position he held until 1830, when he resigned, but
continued to live in Norwich.

[629] He was a licensed Baptist minister in Stonington, Conn. in
1796. That year he began preaching for the Woodstock Baptist
Church in Conn. That church ordained him Jan. 19, 1799, and he
served there as pastor until the summer of 1805. He bult the
meeting-house used by this church at least as late as 1867.
Leaving Woodstock he went to Monson, Mass., where he bought a
farm and where he died. Most of his children were born in
Stonington.

[852] He was ordained pastor of the First Baptist Church in Lowell,
Mass., in 1865, and served said church until 1870, when his
health failed and he moved to Florida. He was graduated from
Madison University, Hamilton, NY in 1861, and from Hamilton
Theological Seminary, in 1865. His first and only charge was at
Lowell, Mass. When he went to Florida he engaged in missionary
work. He was the owner of Woodlawn and Tanglewood Groves at San
Mateo, Florida, where he lived in 1891.
