194. Elijah9 Stanton (Daniel8, John7, Capt John6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Thomas3, John2, Thomas1) was born in Preston, New London, CT 1754. Elijah died 1847. His body was interred 1847 Eaton's Bush Cemetery.

He married Lucy Goodell 1791. Lucy was born 1760. Lucy was the daughter of Abijah Goodell. Lucy died 1832.

He resided Little Falls, Herkimer Co., Ny CA 1780. He resided Fairfield, Herkimer Co., Ny after 1791. When 14 years old he enlisted in the Colonial Army and served through the Revolutionary War. He was the body servant of Gen. Washington for a time. Being captured by the British he was on of the unfortunates who suffered the horrors of the prison ship "Jersey", where he caught the small-pox. He, with his fellow prisoners, were reduced to the necessity of feeding upon vermin picked from their bodies. After his exchange his brother, Elisha, visited him and caught the small-pox, loosing thereby an eye.

She resided Cattaraugus Co., Ny 1891.

child 397 iv. Amanda Stanton was born Fairfield, Ny 14 Jan 1799. Amanda died 29 Aug 1844 Fairfield, Ny. She married Jacob Phillip Nellis 14 Oct 1823. Jacob was born 24 Jun 1795. Jacob(4205) was the son of Phillip Nellis. Jacob died 14 Jun 1883 Rome, Ny. (See Jacob Phillip Nellis for the continuation of this line.) For a period of time after his daughter Amanda's death, he had custody of her children.

She married John Dietz Nellis 29 September 1829. Married by Rev. Calvin Carpenter. Other sources have given the marriage dates as 17 Sep, 10 Nov, and 11 Nov.

John was born in Palatine, Montgomery Co., NY 4 Nov 1807.(4207) On the Philip Nellis homestead. John was the son of Peter Philip Nellis and Margaret Spraker.

She resided in Cacadaigua, Ontario Co., NY 1913.(4216) According to Kathleen McLaughlin ([email protected]) Samantha was a member of the DAR through the service of Elijah Stanton 1754-1841. She was proud that she could trace her family back to Lord Byrain of Stanton Castile.
